Founded in 2006, the Portland Sailing Team host the “Bulldog Classic Regatta” and competes in high school sailing events in Maine and throughout New England. The team keeps up an aggressive fall and spring practice and regatta racing schedule. The Portland Sailing Team is a member of the New England Schools Sailing Association (NESSA), a division of the Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA).
Sailing is a Varsity and Junior varsity sport at Portland High School. The team uses 420 sailboats at the SailMaine Community Sailing facility on Casco Bay, one of the most beautiful venues for high school sailing in the country. Portland HS sailors walk a short distance to practice three times a week and sail amongst Portland’s active harbor along the Eastern Promenade shoreline seeing seals, sea gulls, and lobster boats.
